Foreign security experts to protect Beijing Olympics
www.chinanews.cn 2005-12-29 13:45:19
Chinanews, Beijing, Dec. 29 (By Yu Lixiao) - Beijing police will hire
more than 50 security experts from within and outside of China as
security advisers during the Beijing Olympics. This is Beijing's public
security bureau and Olympic security co-coordinating committee's
revelation to the media during their Dec. 28th press conference.
According to Beijing Public Security Bureau deputy chief Yu Hongyuan, the
police will divide Olympic venues into four grades, depending on the
degree of attention. Those competitive events that are most watched and
where as least 60% of the seats are filled, policemen in uniform and in
civilian clothes will patrol to keep peace and prevent the occurrence of
unexpected events. Volunteers and Olympic security detail will primarily
maintain the security of events where fewer than 50% of the seats are
filled.
It was learned that Beijing police have set up security plans for all 55
Olympic stadiums in accordance with their designs and have built first
grade and highly sophisticated monitoring device as well as alarms at the
same time these stadiums were built. It was also learned that during next
year's major sport events, all procedures will follow Olympic security
details so that drilling and testing can follow real events for further
improvement. Those that do not meet standards will be adjusted,
supplemented and changed.
