Water pollution in Songhua River
www.chinanews.cn 2005-11-24 10:17:04
Residents carried bottled water in Harbin's business area, the capital of
northeastern Heilongjiang province November 23, 2005. Harbin, one of
China's biggest cities, on Wednesday temporarily restored water supplies
shut off at midnight to allow residents to stock up as a wave of polluted
river water flowed towards the area. China confirmed earlier on Wednesday
that an explosion at a petrochemical plant had caused 'major pollution'
of the Songhua River, from which Harbin draws its drinking water.
